Many of you may not know that I also release music under the name The Sound of Machines. I’ve been playing and recording music since I was a wee lad, long before I started making the experimental sound projects you see around here.
I've "released" (yes in quotes) 9 full-length albums over my lifetime, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart for a few reasons.
One reason being that I was lucky enough to have run a successful Kickstarter and pressed a run of 200 copies on vinyl. 50 of the 200 records were sold as part of the KickStarter rewards. My plan was to perform the album around the East Coast and hopefully sell the remaining records at merch tables.
This was 2019. Right before the world took a nap for a while. Quarantine time, and absolutely no public shows.
So here I am years later with a new online shop and a way to finally offer the remaining copies for sale to an audience already somewhat familiar with my work. I am very excited to get the rest of these out into the world.
The album was mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios. He's worked on some incredible albums by Boards of Canada, The Cure, Tame Impala, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave... crazy.
And the artwork was created by Julia Soboleva, who has provided artwork for a few of my albums, as well as for a little up-and-coming musician named David Gilmour. Also crazy.
If you want to preview the album before you buy, it's available on most streaming platforms, including Bandcamp. Spotify removed it because some shady playlist added it to their catalog, which triggered an automatic removal of the album from my account. How fucked up is that? No asking me about it... or... this is where I stop thinking about it before I get angry all over again.
I'll leave you with this great write-up by David Ferguson back in 2020. I hope you enjoy the album.
